With the current energy crisis demands on food banks is expected to grow, putting even more pressure on organisers and volunteers.
Reusable plastic supermarket containers and accessories can help food bank organisers to operate more efficiently. Used correctly the crates can help to save time, reduce space, minimise waste, maintain hygiene and ensure longevity of many food items. Combining the crates with wheeled dollies helps users to save even more time and improve staff safety.
Supermarket Crates protect, maintain quality and promote hygiene for fresh and frozen fruit, vegetables, packed meats, fish, prepared meals and many other food items.
Crates stack securely on bale-arms and nest to save valuable space on return transport. They are used extensively by food processors, retailers, food service companies and logistics operations and are ideally suited to meet food banks’ handling requirements
Strong and secure, Supermarket Crates trays stack ten high carrying a 16Kg unit load. Empty trays nest by up to 76% of their original height saving valuable space when not in use.
The environmental benefits of reusing crates are realised through reducing both packaging and food waste. Additional benefits are gained through improved operational efficiencies; saving time and money.
Supermarket crates allow users to reduce the amount of both primary packaging and packaging sundries from the supply chain.
The protective nature of reusable plastic crates means that many fruit and vegetables can be distributed loose, with little or no additional packaging or protection. Reusable plastic trays require no taping or stapling and stack securely on pallets, eliminating the need for stretch wrapping or banding when fitted with a pallet lid.
Totebox supermarket crates have been designed to maintain quality. Design features include ventilated sides to aid air flow (speeding cooling and helping to maintain a constant temperature) and curved corners and smooth sides (protect produce from knocks and bruising).
Increasing longevity and preventing loss of fresh produce means that there is less waste, so more produce survives the journey from field fork; further reducing carbon footprint and saving money.
Totebox supermarket crates are available in four sizes. Three models, with a base footprint of 600 x 400mm, are available in capacities of 35, 44 and 54-litres. A half-size 15-ltre crate, with a base footprint of 400 x 300mm, stacks two-up (side-by-side) on the larger models. This enables operators to form a stable compact stack of loaded crates.
Totebox supermarket crates also help users to improve health and safety. Ergonomically positioned hand-holds reduce back injuries and, unlike cardboard boxes and timber pallets, there are no staples, metal shards or splinters to cause injury.
Unlike disposable transit packaging (which takes time to assemble, offers limited protection and is thrown away), Totebox containers can be used again and again – paying for themselves many times over during their long lives.
